When Sam and I moved to Cedar City four years ago in January, I was TERRIFIED of the snow. Driving in it, walking in it, being anywhere near it. Slippery walkways, black ice, frosty windshields, and icy winds. The whole thing sounded miserable. Cold, slushy, freezy, miserable.
Well, with each passing year, snow has made it's way slowly into my heart in spite of all of the things there are to hate about it. There is something magical about watching snow fall quietly at night by the light of the street lamps or waking up to a fresh blanket of snow on Christmas morning. There is nothing more fun than building a snowman and then rushing inside to warm up with a hot cup of cocoa. Watching families excitedly drag their little sleds behind them and seeing the thrill on their faces as they ride down the snowy hill, being the first to run through a smooth, blanketed field of snow, and walking through a snow covered forest in anticipation of finding the perfect Christmas tree.
Snow is wonderful. I can honestly say that "Im dreamin of a white Christmas". Who would have thought?
It looks like my dream may come true this year. We were blessed with a beautiful covering of snow a few days ago and we decided to take full advantage. We filled our thermos with piping hot mint cocoa, bundled Emma up until she resembled a pink, puffy marshmallow (thanks for the awesome snow suit uncle Mike!) and headed up the canyon until we found a perfect spot to play.
Emma was intrigued by the snow. She has seen snow before but she was too young to be very interested in it. This time she wanted to touch it and, of course, taste it! She laughed as she watched Daisy roll around in it. Daisy has always loved the snow. It's hilarious to watch her bounding like a bunny as she tries to keep her head up above the mounds and mounds of snow. She rolls in it, digs in it, and runs in it. Silly dog.
Sam started to build a snowman so of course I had to complete the family. I built a snow woman for me, snow baby for Emma, and even a snow dog for Daisy. We wandered around in the winter wonderland and I was pelted with a few snowballs along the way. I reciprocated the best I could while holding a wiggly baby and our various recording devices.
It's funny how something I thought I hated turned out to be a huge part of some of the best memories! Our first adventure in the snow this year was a big success and I'm looking forward to more fun all snowy season long.
