Emma's First Artwork

Emma and I tried a fun little art project today! I love this idea because set up and clean up are a piece of cake for mom and Emma had the time of her life. She is still a bit young (at 10 months) for this activity so her interest lasted all of five to ten minutes but-small price to pay for a few minutes of delight! And, I know I’m a new mom so maybe this isn’t exciting to some but, I got to hang Emma’s first little piece of art on the fridge! I probably enjoyed the whole experience ten times more than she did.

For this activity, all you need is paint (I used finger paints because that’s what I had but, you could really use any kind of colorful paint), a large Ziploc bag, and a sturdy piece of cardstock (if you don’t have cardstock, you could just double up some regular paper so that it’s a little more sturdy. This way, the paint won’t seep through.)
Squirt out colorful dots of paints onto the paper. “OOOH!” Emma loved watching me do that part! She was already getting excited and clapping her hands together as if in anticipation. I think she liked the bright colors I chose.

Next, Slip the piece of paper into a Ziploc bag and zip it up tight.

After that, I just put the bagged piece of paper in front of Emma and let her do her thing. Immediately she was pushing on the colorful dots, excited to see that they moved around if she squished them. She excitedly slapped the piles of paint and swirled them around with her tiny fingers into a perfect little piece of art. I knew she was done when she tossed the bag on to the floor.

Presto-a perfect little piece of art with ZERO mess. Clean floor, clean high chair, clean hands. So fun for Emma and even more fun for me to watch. I pulled her painting out of the bag and let it dry before hanging on the fridge to show daddy when he got home. If you aren’t as excited about keeping it as I am, just toss out the whole thing while in the bag! So easy.
